Hi, my name is Nika Petrovic. I am a visual artist born 1987 in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. I’m currently based in Vienna, Austria.
I am a member of HDLU Zagreb – Croatian Association of Fine Arts, ULUPUH Zagreb – Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts and ART Forum Zadar.
I learned the traditional pottery technique from my father when I was a child. This early experience has set the path for my exploration of the possibilities of modern ceramics and mixed media. My education began in Zagreb, where I graduated from The School of Applied Arts and Design in 2005 with main emphasis on fashion design. Then I moved to Graz, Austria to continue my education. In 2011 I had the opportunity to spend six months living and studying in Italy while on Erasmus student exchange program. My work as a fashion model took me to India in 2012, where I spent a few months gathering impressions and inspiration for my art. In 2014 I received two Bachelor of Arts certificates: one from the Karl – Franzens University in Graz for Intercultural Communication, and another from the Arthouse – College of Visual Arts in Ljubljana where I studied painting, clay sculpture and photography. In 2015 I won a scholarship at the Academy of Applied Photography in Graz where I studied artistic photography and got my diploma. A year later, I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree with main emphasis on clay sculpture, underwater photography, photo and video performance. Soon afterwards, I started a PhD program at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna at the Institute for Art Sciences, Art Education and Philosophy. I have had two solo shows (one in Austria and one in Croatia), as well as many group exhibitions in Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
I love to travel and meet new vivid cultures, people and their customs. No matter the differences we are all privileged to live on our amazing planet, we breathe the same air, need love and are all one.
